Edit your video

Trim, split, and arrange the timeline

Cut off the start or the end

  1. 1

Click the clip, then drag its left or right edge inwards

The left edge trims the beginning, the right edge trims the end. Nothing is deleted permanently: drag back out to get it again.

    Clips on the ShotGlass timeline
Each row is one layer. Grab the very edge of a clip to trim it.
  2. 2

Play across the new start or end

Make sure you did not clip the first word or the last click.

Cut a mistake out of the middle

  1. 1

Turn on Linked clips first if you have audio or camera

The chain button in the transport bar: a broken chain means it is off. With it on, splitting, trimming, moving, or deleting the screen recording does the same to the matching audio and camera, so nothing drifts out of sync.

The ShotGlass transport bar with the split, delete, and link buttons
Scissors splits. The bin deletes. The chain is Linked clips, shown broken here because it is off.
  2. 2

Put the playhead where the mistake starts and click the scissors

Or press S. The clip splits in two at the playhead.

Two timeline tracks: a video row and a microphone row: under the timeline ruler
  3. 3

Move to where the mistake ends and click the scissors again

You now have the bad section as its own clip in the middle.

  4. 4

Click that middle clip and press Delete

The clips either side close the gap.

  5. 5

Play from a few seconds before the join

Listen for a chopped word and watch for a jump in the screen action.

Change which layer sits in front

  1. 1

Drag a whole timeline row above or below another

Higher rows draw in front. Audio rows do not stack: they all play together.

Undo a mistake

  1. 1

Click the undo arrow at the far left of the transport bar

Redo is next to it. Works on trims, splits, moves, and setting changes.

  2. 2

Zoom the timeline in if two cut points are too close to grab

The + button at the right end of the transport bar.
